Building food Security and Relilience among Rural Households in Timor Leste

CIRCLE Indonesia has conducted a midterm evaluation of “Building Food Security and Resilience among Rural Households in Timor Leste” project in July – August 2011. The

project has been implemented by Hivos through partnership with some local NGOs in Timor Lestes.

Funded by European Union, the project started to commence since January 2010 with a specific objective of “Increased access to diversified food and income sources, improved storage and food utilization and strengthened capacities and coordination to recover from shocks”. Some components under the project are:

  • Production level.

  • Diversification of nutrition.

  • Food crops.

  • Value addition of product.

  • Market access for agricultural and allied products.

  • Food use.

  • Health and nutrition status.

Collection of field data was undertaken in 15 days in four villages in three districts. The four villages are: Defauasi in Baucau district, Uaniuma in Viqueque district, and Aelebere and Parlamento in Lautem district. Some data collection methods used in this evaluation included document review, focus group discussions, interviews, observations, and transect walk.
